Having a business means you do some or a lot of marketing on a monthly to yearly basis. Finding a designer and starting a working relationship with them will help you so much when you need something done quickly. You will already have them in your contacts, once you start working with them, they will have all of your past work and logos easily accessible in case they need to access them quickly. No need to email back and forth images to new designers.

When you own your own business, it can be pretty demanding. You as owners, wear many hats and try to do your very best to get everything done. But what happens when you need something designed for your business? Do you try to design it yourself? That could work in some instances, but a number of things can stop you...

1. You don't have the programs to do any design.

Many programs cost money (and quite a bit) to buy or rent and unless you will use it more than a few times a year, it is just not worth the cost. Depending on how much work you will be doing, you could pay a designer and it could be less than the cost of the programs.

2. Even if you had the programs, you do not know how to use them.

These programs like Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop have a lot of intricate tools you have to learn to use and if you don't know how to use them with ease, you will not be able to complete a project in any decent amount of time. If you calculate the hours it takes to make one project, you might even find it cheaper to have a designer do it.

3. You don't have any design experience.

Having the proper experience in layout and color (among other things) are big keys to making a project great. Knowledge of these things will really help you create something spectacular. Also, creating something yourself is a feat and sometimes when you put a lot of time and energy into something you fall in love with it. But there is a rule in graphic design and it is this, "Don't fall in love with your design." There are many reasons, but the biggest reason is if the design doesn't do what you intended it to do (bring in clients / customers), you do not want to change it because you love it so much. Just because you love it, doesn't mean everyone else will be moved by it (Sorry.) Professionals know how to put their love for something aside to create something that works.

4. You do not know how to find images.

If your project entails it, having to find images can be a big task. Designers know what images they can and cannot use. (due to copyright laws). Do you know what is legal and what isn't? They should know and they also should have a small to large database of images you CAN use.

5. You need something done quickly and correctly.

All business do not have time to go out of their way to create graphics on their own - that's what a professional designer is for. We will be timely with edits and final files. You can count on them to have what you need by your deadlines.

Start a working relationship with a graphic designer as soon as you can! You will be surprised how many things you call them for that you never did before because you didn't have the means to do so. Now you do!
